Ben and Becca Fire Relief Fund

We are raising funds for these two caring and generous humans, their disabled pup, and three kitties. These two do so much for our community; they need our help now. Their home caught fire while they were at Pride and almost all their belongings are gone. Luckily the firefighters were able to save their animals, but they suffered severe smoke inhalation and have needed vet care. Ben and Becca are strong community volunteers who volunteer extensively with Pride youth programs, have fostered over 120 neonatal kittens in their incubator, fundraise for local and national LGBTQ+ nonprofits, and more. Ben used to teach preschool special education and is now working on his PhD focusing his research on supporting trans students through curriculum and policy. Becca is a researcher supporting the HIV community, queer and trans folks accessing healthcare, and survivors of domestic violence. They are in crisis and almost nothing can be saved from their house. Before the fire, they were slowly saving for their wedding and preparing for their first attempt at IVF to have their first baby together.

If you know of temporary or permanent housing options for them and/or the animals please reach out. They are interested in moving into a new home - even if they can repair things (which will take months) - it’s just too traumatic to go back. So, if you have housing leads, please reach out. You can also contact me if you have items to donate. You can drop them off or I can pick them up.

All donations will go toward housing costs, vet bills, and rebuilding and replacing literally everything they own (think every appliance, every kitchen item, couch, mattress, dressers, all Crossfit and boxing gear - everything). Funds will also go to breaking their current lease and paying the rent that they are still responsible for although the Red Cross and Fire Marshall both condemned it.

Some immediate items needed if you’d like to donate are:

Pet items: Feliway spray, Instinct Raw Boost cat kibble, Petco Wholehearted wet food (cans), any non-grain-free Petco Wholehearted dog food kibble, any Petco Wholehearted dog wet food (cans)

Clothes:

Ben sizes - small shirts, small/medium shorts, 30-32x30 pants, my vans (daily sneakers) were a M6 or W7.5 and my Nano’s were a W8 but could probably fit into a W7.5

Becca sizes - large shirts, large shorts, size W6.5 sneakers
