Ben and Chris “Hunt 1000” for MCRI Epilepsy Team

My brother in law, Chris, and I have entered a cycling event called “The Hunt 1000”, an unsupported off road journey through the Australian alps. Our 1000km trip includes about 20,000 metres of elevation change and will begin in Melbourne on 22nd November, finishing in Canberra on 3rd December.

We will be riding through some tough terrain, significant mountains, river crossings and amazing alpine landscapes. We will be self sufficient, carrying all our camping and cooking gear, clothing, food and water on our bikes.

Chris and I go by the team name “BroStorm”, but even having a tough name like that won’t take the edge off the mental and physical challenge we will face on this adventure!

In doing this trip, we would like to raise some money for a good cause, and would appreciate any help.

In April 2021, my wife Leanne and I lost our 3 year old son Jackson, who suffered from a genetic brain condition called SCN2A. Jackson had an amazing group of specialists looking after him, led by Dr Katherine Howell at the Royal Children’s hospital. Jackson overcame so many challenges throughout his life and inspired many with his strength and resilience.

Any funds raised will go to the Epilepsy Team within the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI), which is led by Dr Howell. The Epilepsy Team conduct clinical research aimed at improving the lives of children with various types of epilepsy.
