Ben Hernandez Stroke Recovery Fund

Friends, Help is needed.
On Monday March 25th, while in his home, Ben suffered a stroke. This stroke was caused by a clot (ischemic stroke) in the largest part of the brainstem-the Pons. The Pons is critically involved with the function of the cranial nerves, sensations, and movement. Since suffering this stroke, Ben has speech difficulty and right-sided deficits – unable to fully use his right arm and leg. He is currently unable to continue work or to care for patients. His care and recovery time will be lengthy and costly.

Ben’s income is the sole income for his household. His wife Michelle has cared for the home, their 7 children, 2 of whom are still students living at home. Michelle was also the primary caregiver for Ben’s mother who passed away in October 2023. She now needs to manage the home, family and (with him) Ben’s care.
About Ben…

Ben has served his community as a paramedic for approximately 40 years caring for thousands of patients during that time. He has treated the ill and the injured. He has seen life lost and has helped life come into this world. Ben has graciously and humbly approached his work in EMS as not just a job, but a ministry. He has helped to teach and train new generations of paramedics and future firefighters, nurses, and physicians. He has also been a member of the EMS Peer Support Team providing peer-peer counseling for co-workers experiencing critical incident stress and/or work/life struggles. Ben’s strong faith, plus years of experience as a medical provider, plus years of experience as a husband and father of seven, combined with his gentle nature, have made him a valued confidant for those looking for guidance. Being a couple of strong faith, Ben and his wife Michelle are active in their church and serve in various ministries. His ministry of healing has not been limited to local EMS. He has devoted his time and gifts to medical missions, traveling to help other countries in need. He even helped to establish a first responders’ curriculum in Skopje, Macedonia.
Ben is loved not only by his biological family and close friends but also by his EMS, Hospital, Church communities. People want to know what they can do to help. Your help is needed now, and donations are gratefully appreciated.
