Ben MacMichael fundraiser for cancer journey

UPDATE 7/25: Ben had his first chemo on 7/12 and it’s been a crazy stretch! On 7/13 Ben had 2300cc drained from his lung. On 7/15 he was admitted to the hospital and didn’t get out until 7/21. He now has IV nutrition rather than eating solid food.Today he heads to Topsham to meet the oncologist associated with Dana Farber. Tomorrow is his second chemo treatment. As you can imagine, his treatment is expensive: travel, hotel, food, medical bills, lost wages. THANK YOU to all that are helping! We are overwhelmed by all the love and support! In fact the only time I’ve seen Ben get emotional was about the generous donations! He is so touched and thankful! I can’t imagine going through the hell he has endured and have that be the only thing that brought tears to my eyes. He is a a much-loved warrior and my hero! We are hoping it’s an easier stretch for him after this treatment! And that the chemo will slow/reverse the growth of all the tumors and stop/slow the accumulation of fluid.
UPDATE 7/11/23 Ben starts a very aggressive chemo treatment tomorrow. It will continue for 6 months if he can tolerate it and then another scan. His short term disability has kicked in but is about 1/3 his regular pay. No one wants to be in this position, but as Ben said today “You have to play the hand you’re dealt”. He has been unbelievable through this, which is no surprise for anyone who knows Ben. But the road ahead is difficult. His oncologist has said there is no cure, only treatment.
On behalf of the MacMichael/Bussell families, I am sharing some hard news. In April, Ben MacMichael was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Family and friends have rallied to give Ben and Sarah the support they need for this difficult journey. In times like this people often ask what they can do to help. We have organized several local fundraisers and this GoFundMe to help with current and future expenses. Please join us at the events and/or donate here to help us show them some love. Feel free to reach out to family with any suggestions, bake sale orders, auction items, other fundraising ideas, or just to connect. The road ahead is daunting and we appreciate your support!
