Ben Taub Emergency Department School Supply Drive

The Baylor College of Medicine, Ben Taub Department of Emergency Medicine has partnered with Lockhart Elementary School in 3rd Ward on our 2nd annual school supply drive.

Lockhart Elementary is a Title 1 school where >90% of the students receive some form of government assistance. The principal has indicated that only about 1/3 of the students will show up to school on the first day with school supplies. In this high-need setting, we want to prevent access to resources from being a barrier to academic success. Additionally, one way to build the pipeline into healthcare professions is to support an elementary school student!

We have committed to adopting the entire first grade and will provide a bookbag with all mandatory school supplies to every 1st-grade student. We will also have extra supplies and will provide the remainder to the school for other students.
