Benches for Bus Stops - Charlotte Urbanists

WHY BUS STOP BENCHES?

Most bus stops around Charlotte are nothing more than a signpost in the grass. We believe this is unacceptable, so we decided to do something about it. These benches are a simple way to provide transit users with the dignity of a basic amenity while highlighting the issues plaguing our public transit system. Our goal is to draw attention to these issues, and push local government agencies to do better.

 

THE BENCHES

Each bench costs about about $80 to build, depending on the price of lumber. Each bench is built to cost, and each bench is assembled and installed by volunteers. We find locations where benches are most needed using public data and our own survey research.
