Global Teacher Empowerment Network
Would you like to make a difference to the lives of children in the most disadvantaged communities in Africa? By empowering their teachers, you can give young people a better education that equips them to get work, contribute to their communities, and to thrive in this rapidly changing world.
I am raising money to provide professional training for teachers and free resources (see https://aiminghigh.aimssec.ac.za) through the charity: MATHEMATICS EDUCATION TO EMPOWER AFRICA to help the AIMSSEC Project, which I set up in 2003.
It breaks my heart that the majority of South Africans live in conditions un-imaginable to people in Europe and America. Within a short walk of where I live in Fish Hoek there is Masiphumelele (swampy land, tin shacks, many households sharing a water tap) and Ocean View (with no view of the ocean). These are 3 very different parts of Fish Hoek and, across South Africa, this tripartite system still separates the races.
For 17 years my educational charity AIMSSEC has been giving free training to over 2300 teachers from the most disadvantaged communities, that has changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of children. These teachers had a limited and inadequate education themselves because that was the policy in apartheid South Africa. Please help us to help them to help the children.
In 2012 AIMSSEC won the UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Outstanding Practice and Performance in Enhancing the Effectiveness of Teachers in Developing Countries. AIMSSEC depends on sponsorship funding and people like myself across the world who are working as unpaid volunteers to assist the AIMSSEC African team. We do it to give children the chance of a brighter future by helping these teachers provide a better education because children in Africa today are not getting the life chances they need.
Their teachers are doing the very best they can, they work long hours with class sizes of 60 or more and are uncomplaining and unfailingly cheerful, though worried and overworked, and then they come long distances for workshops in the school holidays.
Every rand, every cent, every penny will help. Without donations AIMSSEC faces closure at the end of the year. We need help to keep AIMSSEC going in this time of crisis. Please help us to continue our good work.
Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
