Benjamin Kincaid is graduating high school!

We are so proud of Benjamin, the boy who almost wasn't born. It makes his graduation, his stellar performance, and his entry into Wheaton College next fall all the more humbling and providential. In 2004, when Benjamin was born, We were living in Shawnee, Oklahoma, a place with deep family roots for us. If we track back to the first few months of pregnancy, Heather went for what we thought was a routine doctor's visit. The doctor did an ultrasound and discovered no heartbeat, and, even worse, diagnosed the situation as a molar pregnancy (a tumor that develops in the uterus and not a baby). The only thing to do was to remove it.

Thankfully, our doctor, Darin C. Sparkman, was a Christian who prayed for wisdom and prayed for each of his patients. The day Heather was to go to the hospital for the procedure, her doctor called. He said he was up all night praying about what to do. He wanted Heather to go for another ultrasound so we can have a redundant verdict. So, with emotions all swirling around us and two kids under four years old at the house with grandma, we went to the hospital to see what God in his good providence might have for us - either the saving of Heather alone or the miraculous "catch" of finding a baby truly inside her.

Almost immediately, whereas before there was nothing, a heartbeat rang out strong and without a doubt. In tears and great joy, the nurse phoned Dr. Sparkman who stopped in the middle of surgery to take the call and celebrate the news. We were going to have a baby, our Benjamin. He's an amazing boy and someone who has unique gifting.

With a 4.0 high school record and a Presidential Scholarship that covers half of his tuition at Wheaton, other people - his teachers and the wider world - are noticing. We hope you will help us celebrate him - to help him buy his books next year, offset the total amount of college, or just provide a token encouragement to our baby boy, all grown up. We are so, so very pleased he is in the land of the living and has a call on his life to love and serve the Lord.
