Benjamin Lunn, 26, formerly of Forest Lake MN, was found dead April 14, 2019 at his Nebraska apartment. He attended Forest Lake Senior High School, where he was an avid member of the band program, graduating in 2011. After receiving his diploma he continued his music education in Percussion Performance at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, transferring to the University of South Dakota-Vermillion in 2013.

AVID BAND MEMBER

Ben developed his love of ensemble performance as a member of Washington County 4-H, participating in both County Arts In and State Arts In. Throughout his life, Ben was a member of the Minnesota marching arts community. His contributions, as a performer, helped earn a World Class gold medal in 2011 for Minnesota Brass Inc and a silver medal in 2012 for Minnesota Brass Indoor. A talented and versatile percussionist, who also played in jazz bands and orchestras across the Midwest during his undergraduate career.

PASSION FOR THE MARCHING ARTS

Ben was exceptionally kind and always wanted to talk about drums. In addition to his performance acumen Ben was a beloved and sought after educator within the communities of South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin and leaves behind a legacy of friends, students, and mentors who thank him for his contributions to their successes, in music, and in life.

FOREST LAKE DRUMLINE DIRECTOR

MEMORIES FROM FRIENDS, STUDENTS, MENTORS
Countless cherished memories have been shared with his family:
... I'll never forget his great laugh and the good times we had playing music together.
...  I will always remember him as a gentle soul. He was so talented and had perfect drumming hands.
...  Ben taught me to never give up on a student by becoming the best and hardest working student I ever had.
... He inspired me and was a true example of how confidence feeds off confidence. He was a tremendous student, and after being my student, was a tremendous friend.
... Another very important lesson he taught me is that if I’m not passionate about something then there’s no point in doing it.
... He was one of the first people that taught me to just relax and chill, and have fun once in awhile.

NATURAL LEADER
Every musician starts out needing to supplement their income.  Ben is remembered by management at his day job for consistently demonstrating a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. He was a highly-respected co-worker and friend to several employees in his department.  He led his team to ensure they created a safe and clean work environment each day, and his natural leadership skills came through in the respect his teammates had for him as he served in this capacity.  Ben’s kindness, warmth and genuine caring for others will be missed by everyone who knew him.
