27th Winter Universiade
Donation protected
I have been selected to represent the US on the short track speedskating team at the 27th Winter Universiade in Granada, Spain, February 4-14, 2015.
This will be my first international competition! I need to raise $3,500 cover my airfare, room and board, and administrative expenses in order to participate in this event. The team was just announced on January 21st, giving me a very short period of time to organize a fundraising campaign.
There are 12 skaters on the team - 6 women and 6 men. Of the 12, I am the only one selected from outside the national training facility in Salt Lake City and the only team member not being funded by a special grant to US Speedskating. The grant is only available to skaters who train in 4 states - Utah, Wyoming, New Mexico and Colorado.
I started speedskating 5 years ago and absolutely love the sport. I became competitive on the national level in my third year, achieving the elite Category 1 status at age 16. At the end of the 2013-14 season, I competed at the US national short track championships and am the 2014 National Champion in my age group.
My home club is United Capital Blades Speedskating Club in Maryland. Our coach, Hyun Jung Lee, was recently awarded "Developmental Coach of the Year" by US Speedskating. I'm excited about competing in an international event and bringing back my experiences to other skaters in our club.
I am in my second semester of my freshman year at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Even with the challenges of a full and demanding course load, I maintain my training regimen and commitment to excellence in skating.
I need to raise $3,500 to cover my airfare, room and board and administrative fees for participation in the Winter Universiade . If I raise more, I would like to help my mother be able to travel to Granada to watch me and our team compete.
I am grateful for your support and will do my best to represent the US at this Winter Universiade .
Thank you!
