Benjii Taylor Road 2 Rehabilitation
Donation protected
On June 18 Benjii was in a life-changing accident. He suffered a complete spinal cord injury to his Thoracic spine at the T7 & T8 , leaving him paralyzed from that point (mid-chest) and down. Along with the spinal cord injury, he broke 14 ribs, both lungs collapsed requiring chest tubes, shattered his right shoulder, and banged and bruised the rest of his body pretty good too. He has had surgery to stabilize his vertebrae from the T4-T10 with rods and screws inserted to try to shape his spine as closely to anatomically correct as possible. Benjii spent 10 days in the Trauma ICU at Memorial University Hospital in Savannah before he was transferred to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta to begin his rehabilitation process. Today is day 8 of being here at Shepherd's and we have experienced many ups and downs in this short time, now actually starting to fully grasp the reality and severity of the situation. They have classified him as a T6A which refers to his actual "level of injury." This means that from the T6 down absolutely no signals are crossing from his brain. He has no feeling, no sensations, no movement, no control, just nothing below that level. As you can all imagine this has completely turned our world upside down. It has been hard news for the kids to comprehend as Kylee, Brayden, and Knox have always known their daddy to be their hero and the tough guy who can do anything, and now having to process the fact that he will be in a wheelchair, but we are all so thankful that he is still alive and he does have his same personality and as lots of people have mentioned "he can still play the guitar!" Any funds that are raised will be going towards medical equipment, accruing medical expenses, and helping to have family and caregivers close during this unexpected transition in life. Also, modifications will have to be made to vehicles, living spaces, etc to make them wheelchair friendly and we are learning these modifications are rather costly. So as you can all imagine we have a long road ahead of us and your support, friendships, love, and prayers while we are going down this path is invaluable to us. Thanks so much for taking time to read and I will be posting more updates and detail as we go, but for now just wanted to get the basic info out there to all of our friends and family. we love you all and please help spread the word for us. My children and I are so thankful.
