Ben’s medical expense fund
Donation protected
Some of you may not know but Ben’s cancer has returned. He had clear scans in May but started having pain in his hip in late July. A biopsy in August confirmed his cancer is back. He has an aggressive form of Ewings Sarcoma. Fortunately a PET scan showed that the cancer is only in his pelvis, which was the site of his original cancer. This means he is eligible for surgery to remove the tumor and make him cancer free. Unfortunately the surgery, called a hemipelvectomy, is very invasive. It involves removing half of his pelvis and hip. This will leave him with his right leg being shorter than his left. There is also a chance of amputation due to the amount of radiation he had during his original treatment. Ben will have to do intensive physical therapy. He will have to relearn to walk. As horrific as this sounds, this surgery will save his life! Yes, this is a matter of life or death. Words no parent ever wants to or should have to hear about their child.
Ben will need to stay In Rochester, MN for 6-8 weeks, probably more. There are many costs associated with being away from home for this long. Airbnb, hotels, parking fees, insurance out-of pocket costs, flights for Dan and Paige, etc.
The cost of dealing with cancer is so expensive and no amount of saving or budgeting can prepare you for it. Dan, Karen, Paige and Ben feel your love, support and prayers! So many people have asked how they can help. The Guttings have given us permission to do a fundraiser!
Please keep praying and sending your positive thoughts and good vibes their way! The next few months will be challenging for them. Emotionally, physically and financially. Thank you for your love and support!
