Benton County Board of Health Legal Defense Fund

On October 3, 2023, the Benton County Board of Health faced an unjust termination. Despite exhausting all avenues with the State of Iowa, we've hit a roadblock. Legal action is now our only recourse.

The Supervisor's decision sets a dangerous precedent by legitimizing behind-closed-doors terminations without cause. Their actions undermine the principles of fairness, open communication, and most crucially, the public's right to know. This action could have ripple effects on all other committees and boards in the county -- allowing the supervisors the ability to terminate any volunteer they wish without having to explain their actions.

We are simply asking our elected officials to follow laws and to abide by established administrative procedures. It is with those goals in mind that we’re asking for your help.

We need your help to fund our legal representation. We feel it is our responsibility to stand up for fair and honest government. Any contribution that makes a difference. Let's protect the integrity of public service in Benton County.

If we succeed in reclaiming attorney's fees, all funds will be dedicated to mental health projects in our county—the #1 need according to our community health needs assessment.
