Bereavement suite - Doncaster hospital
As a club we were approached by the bereavement midwife at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to discuss their plans to install a bereavement suite at DRI for families going through babyloss. Currently if you go through this heartache in DRI you are placed on the labour ward surrounded by labouring mothers and crying newborn babies. This is not what grieving parents need to be surrounded by.
This is obviously something very close to our hearts, and we want to work closely with the hospital to help create a better environment for grieving parents to spend time with their little one.
With BLAW fast approaching we thought this is the perfect time to raise awareness of babyloss and the staggering statistics that come with it, aswell as helping raise vital funds for the hospital and the bereavement suite.
So we have currently got the following ideas in the planning stage;
1st-4th September - A handful of players are setting off on a 92 mile walk starting at Harrogate Town FC and ending at Doncaster Rovers visiting Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Barnsley, both Sheffield clubs and Rotherham on the way. Follow the journey on our social media!
15th October - Fundraising night with live entertainment, with a maximum of 220 guests and hopefully alot of prizes up for grabs.
8th-9th October- A 24hour walk round lakeside doncaster split between the team, finishing early afternoon and leading into a game vs our brothers Sands United FC Ashby
Other players are running their own little fundraisers too.
Please keep an eye out for ticket information, and what prizes we have to offer!
