On Monday, September 16th, while running on a trail around Green Lake in Seattle, a vehicle left the roadway and struck Bergen from behind sending her 30 feet airborne and down an embankment. At the scene she was conscious but could not feel or move her arms and legs.
She has since regained feeling and movement, but suffered a severe break in her C1 vertebrae at the top of her spine, a fracture of her C6 vertebrae, two severe breaks of her humerus at the elbow and shoulder, a broken clavicle and a broken shoulder blade.
Bergen has had two successful surgeries to fuse her vertebrae to her skull and to place a rod and screws in her arm and elbow. She has one surgery remaining to repair her shoulder.
While Bergen is expected to recover very well, she permanently will have limited neck mobility due to the plate over her vertebrae.
We are seeking funds to cover medical deductible expenses, travel expenses for her Mom and brother to travel to Seattle from Minneapolis, and for lost wages.
Any assistance is appreciated by Bergen and her family. We would like to thank our family and friends, and so many strangers that have asked how they can help provide emotional and prayer support.
