Help us honor the men and women of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office!
Since 1892, the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office has provided safety and service to one of the largest communities in South Carolina. The Berkeley County Museum seeks to showcase this venerable agency with a display of period artifacts, accompanied with panels of historical information. A memorial to those in the Sheriff’s Office who have fallen in the line of duty will also be installed in a key area of the exhibit.
Currently, the museum is in the processing of converting a room into a replica Sheriff’s office. The antique furnishings reflect a variety of historical periods, as do the cases displaying badges, side arms, handcuffs and other utility items. The cornerstone and fingerprint stand from the old Berkeley County Jail (1937-1993) will also be part of this educational display.
The public will have a chance to get an up close and personal look at these artifacts, and learn about the many challenges and triumphs of the Sheriff’s Office.
We need your help to complete this project! Converting the room to accommodate the exhibit has required the used of skilled craftsmen. Numerous display boxes remain to be built, support structures installed, electrical work done, and work remains in properly printing and displaying historical panels.
We are hoping to secure the neccesary funds for completion by the end of 2016. All donors will be listed on a panel within the exhibit, thanking them for their generosity .
