Cycling Berlin to Cape Town for Charity

Donation protected
Hello!

We are Emma and Oscar, siblings with a mission to cycle from Berlin to Cape Town, rasing money for charity. We are supporting the Prince Albert Skills School (PASS) and The Humane League (THL), two charities we chose that have a significant impact.

PASS is a project located in Prince Albert, in the Great Karoo, South Africa. We grew up in this small town and have a personal connection to this community. The focus of PASS is to provide its learners (who are often living on the streets, have dropped out of formal schooling and/or come from households that have a variety of socio-economic problems) with a safe learning environment, psychological and emotional support, and to equip them with life skills and technical skills.

Here is a short introduction to PASS:
Their Instagram page also offers updates on the fantastic work being done by PASS.

The Humane League's work has been recognised for its public accountability and effectiveness with multiple awards. They focus on decreasing suffering in the animal agriculture industry (particularly factory farms) by bringing about change at the institutional and corporate levels. We want our trip to have a positive impact not only on humans but also on the non-human animals that we share this planet with.

Watch this video for a short introduction, or check out their website for more in-depth information.

We have numerous reasons for doing the trip: exploring a form of transport that is less taxing on the environment, challenging our minds and bodies, expanding our knowledge and mindset about different parts of the world, and of course, meeting new people. With the plan to cycle approximately 18000km over 1.5 years through 22 countries, this is an opportunity to have an adventure of a lifetime and raise funds for those less privileged than us. This does not mean we can afford to do this trip entirely out of our own pockets, so we have calculated a budget.

For the 2 of us, for 15 months of bicycle and completely self-sufficient camping travel, we have worked out that we will need approximately 9.000 Euros for our daily living expenses. In Europe we are budgeting 10-15 Euros/ person/ day, and in Africa 5-10 Euros/ person/ day. Our fixed upfront costs such as bicycles, gear and insurance will be covered by the money we personally save.

The goal is to raise a minimum of 27 000 Euros (9000 x 3) so that each charity will get at least the equivalent of our living expenses. If (and hopefully when) we surpass this goal, all subsequent donations will go directly to the two charities and no longer to our living expenses.

Please have a look at our website to learn more about the trip!

Thank you for taking the time to read our story, and we thank you for any donation :)
