Bernadette's Journey

As many of you know, Bernadette is embracing cancer for a second time.
Her journey with cancer began when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma in 2010. Just sixteen months after her son Levi was born. In Bernadette's words, "the treatment was rough. I got a lot of nerve damage from the chemo and my body started going toxic. I was supposed to get eight cycles of chemo and only got through four before my body started going toxic. The next step was higher doses of radiation. I embraced that cancer and learned some things!"
Bernadette won that battle but unfortunately, five years later, in September 2015, Bernadette was faced with a new challenge. She knew something wasn't quite right when she was feeling horrible. She went to have some new diganostic tests performed. Very quickly, she received devastating news from her doctor. She was diagnosed with Acute Myloid Leukemia, a very aggressive cancer.
Bernadette describes it. "When I went to the cancer clinc and the doctor spoke to me, he told me I would have died within three days if this was not detected and treated. The doctors also felt I may not make it through chemo. But, here I am! It's January 2016 and I am embracing this new cancer. I have been in remission for over two months now. I am finishing my last three rounds of chemo before I am off to get a bone marrow transplant."
Bernadette has been very positive and has embraced this challenge as part of her life journey. She has a long road ahead of her and needs our support. She has been challenged with extended hospital visits, aggressive chemo treatments, extreme illness and weakness, while also trying keep to her personal life going strong.
Bernadette plans to use these funds to supplement any travel and medical expenses for her bone marrow transplant (in Toronto or the U.S.) including hospital stays and procedures, hotel, food and transportation, plus a little help with monthly bills due to not working. It would be nice to also help fund a vacation for her to enjoy with her husband and son once she is healthy again!
It is Bernadette's wish to get healthy, stay healthy, and continue creating wonderful memories with her family and friends.
Let's help her accomplish this goal!
