My Story
My name is Bernadette Thompson and this is a brief introduction. The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. Psalm 28:7 Jesus is the answer for the world today. Do you know Him as your Lord and Savior ? He loves you anď He loves me too . It was a bright sunny afternoon on June 10, 1978. I'd just finished my sophmore year as a Music Therapy major at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. My family and I were traveling back to our home in Asheville, NC and it was my turn to drive, though I was sleepy after staying up most of the night to wait for my family. As we entered Lexington, Kentucky, I fell asleep while driving and our car rolled down the bank. I sustained an incomplete injury to my cervical spine spine resulting in quadrplegia. I am a user of a power wheelchair.

Determined to move forward with the life God blessed me with, I went on to complete my education at St. Andrews Presbyterian College, (Laurinburg, NC) and a Master's degree from Western Carolina University (Cullowhee, NC).

I am employed and live independently with attendant care , active in the community and my church, St. James AME church located in Asheville North Carolina. The Reverend Brent La Prince Edwards is the pastor. I sing in the choir, do the youth Word, am a church secretary and numerous other things! !

I have been able to drive with special adaptations to a van. Funds were raised by my church to repair my van only to find out that more was wrong with it than we knew about, more than its estimated value. My bed has now failed to operate properly.

I NEED HELP!! I don't know how I got here, but here I am!! I know God's got it

1. Bed quit in the tune of $2000 to replace. It is a full size fully electric hospital bed. It is stuck in the raised up position
2. Need new tires on my wheelchair all around - $295.00
3. I need a PT evaluation and possible therapy to straighten and strengthen my left arm towards driving

4. I need another vehicle and another year or two to pay for insurance until I get straightened out

I need #1 AS SOON AS POSSIBLE to keep me at home without hurting my aids back
