Hi Family I regret to inform you of the passing of our cousin Bernard Austin(Serena McComick son/Connie Willis grandson) . His sudden death was a shock to the family. To know him was to love him. We would like to give Bernard the memorial he deserves and to honor Bernard’s memory and say our Last goodbyes.

Nobody Cares

This is what Bernard was told for almost 10 years, He became homeless and became the victim of a person running a homeless shelter for the most vulnerable male population , she kept him from his family and he was always told nobody cares she was his family now. She convince him to make her his payee for social security disability he had lost his toes on both foot from shoving snow. When his mother got the call he was on life support after suffering a heart attach she called me because I was in Chicago . We prayed over Bernard daily and God lifted him out the coma, The hospital suggest he go to this nursing home called Elavate Care because he also had Kidney failure, My husband and I spent a lot ot time with Bernard as he described the horrific horror of living with this woman, He had no idea the address where she had taken him from the shelter, she kept all his Identification.She also used him as a servant to take care of others resident who lived there and clean and upkeep outside area and she never paid him a penny and when he asked for couple dollars she told him “No money left”she had moved from the shelter to her home. He was terrified of her and begged not to go back we were working on assisted living . I asked how did he get in predicament. He said poor judgement and he want to move on and praying no one would hold over his head his mistakes. I also found out he had suffer 3 heart attacks and was told no one need to know and was never taken for medical follow up with any doctor.

I found out later this women had connections within the nursing home , there was a No contact order , I became his PoA but the nursing home called me on a Thursday saying they don’t see on I brought it in . When I arrived was told by the Director “oh Bernard don’t want you to be PoA , We went to see Bernard that day he was definitely frighten he told me that lady from the shelter and her daughter was up to see him this was a Thursday btw they put him another room no phone . On Wednesday 3 day later the day b4 his birthday I got call he was found dead . This woman has a lot of connections within the nursing home community. Bernard said that is how he met her before hard times he worked at a nursing home and she would alway come there. If possible please show Bernard someone cares
