Help Jovie’s Mom Fight for Her Life

Hi, my name is Jovie, and I’m a labor and delivery nurse in Toronto, Ontario. I’ve dedicated my career to bringing new life into the world, but today, I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to fight for the most important life in mine—my mom, Bernarda Ballesteros.

Recently, my mom underwent an MRI and MRCP, and the results were devastating. She has a mass near her pancreas, suspected to be either bile duct or pancreatic cancer. Over the past few months, she has lost a significant amount of weight and is suffering from worsening symptoms, including severe jaundice.

Her doctors have urgently recommended an ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) to determine the next steps in her treatment. This procedure is tentatively scheduled for April 7, 2025, in Toronto. Unfortunately, because my mom is still in the process of obtaining her Canadian residency, she does not qualify for government assistance. Her insurance has also failed to respond about coverage, leaving me uncertain and without information.

Why We Need Your Help

The estimated cost for her ERCP, consultations, blood work, EBUS (endobronchial ultrasound), follow-up care, and hospital stay is an overwhelming CAD $80,000—an amount I simply cannot afford alone.

As a single parent and the sole provider for my mom, I have always done everything in my power to take care of her. She has been my rock, my strength, and my greatest supporter. My mother is deeply loved by many. She cared for the children of single and working parents, including myself, as well as others in need. She always offered a helping hand to those who required assistance. Now, she needs your help.
