Berneray Super8 Collection 1960-76 Digitisation

Donation protected
UistFilm, part of Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum & Arts Centre in Lochmaddy, North Uist, is raising funds to digitise local archive film collections in a project called FAODAIL  | FOUND .  Faodail is a Gaelic word for 'a lucky find'.

We are fundraising now to digitise a collection of Super8 film shot on Berneray from 1960 to 1976 recently given to Gloria MacKillop of Berneray. The film was shot by Bill Scott, family friend of the MacKillops, during annual holidays in Berneray over two decades.

We can’t know exactly what is contained in over 4,500 feet of colour Super8 film until it is digitised, but the labelling on the reels mentions Gloria & Donald Alick (Splash) MacKillop’s wedding in 1968. This footage has never been seen by Gloria.

The FAODAIL | FOUND digitisation programme was launched in December 2018, when we successfully crowdfunded £1700 to digitise the  Annie  (Chnoc na Luib) Macdonald’s Super8  collection which revealed fantastic gems of Outer Hebridean moving image history.

Faodail | FOUND will make digitised films accessible online and in venues across the Outer Hebrides. Screening events will present the films to a wide range of audiences to collect detailed information and reminisces from the eras and locations relating to the films. This added context will be of immense value to future generations.

All donors to this campaign will receive a free FAODAIL | FOUND film download.

Mòran taing. Many thanks.
