Hello Friends & Family:
Over the last couple weeks, Besharam has been rocked as all Bay Area restaurants have been, and are struggling to find ways to cope. Besharam has been my dream for a long time --and when I was lucky enough to relaunch the restaurant in the beginning of 2019, the current staff are the ones that took a chance on me. They stuck it out, through the rough times when we were slow, before any accolades, and learned and grew together in a billion painful ways as a staff as we expanded and worked to improve ourselves.
This makes it particularly painful, that I’ve had to lay-off my entire front of house staff and have severely reduced the hours of the back of house, as we attempt to offer carry out and delivery--an effort we make not only to try to continue to sustain our community, but also sustain what staff we were able to keep. At the end of the day though, this is not sustainable, and already I’ve witnessed these people that I consider my family make tough decisions about where they’re living, what bills to pay with what’s left and figure how they’re going to manage.
Over the last couple of weeks, we have been deeply touched to see so many familiar faces come by for carry out, people we recognize from the neighborhood and consider our regulars and friends. It is clear to us that people are wanting to support others and support the community: For that reason I ask that you help support my community, my kids.
Being in the hospitality industry, many live paycheck to paycheck and for some, the government assistance is not accessible. My goal is to raise enough to help with food and housing even though I know that this amount is not nearly enough. 100% of funds raised will be distributed to the staff. No portion of any donations raised will go towards the business or owners in the business, this is strictly for our 21 hourly employees whose livelihoods have been shattered due to the current pandemic.
