Beth Briley Main Medical Emergency fund

My strong, beautiful, kind, smart, loving and independent sister, Beth Briley Main, has been hit by a ton of bricks, called Secondary Raynaud’s Syndrome/Phenomenon.  Unlike the normal symptoms of Primary Raynaud’s Phenomenon where the fingers may turn color and be cold and painful for a period of time, Beth has experienced her fingers turning blue/black and extreme pain that has not gone away.  She has been to so many different doctors, Emergency Rooms, and even a hospital stay at Emory in Atlanta with no relief and no real answers.  She is sent home to try and manage her pain and her life with prescriptions all while she cannot use her hands effectively and sometimes at all.  She was not able to live on her own so my Mom, Ruth Briley, has been staying with her and caring for her as best as she can.  The severe blue/black color of her left index finger started on 12/29/18.  The symptoms progressively got worse very fast and finally came to a head and Beth had not slept for 3 full nights and was so weak and in pain that she was unable to walk.  She was taken by ambulance to hospital and admitted to try and manage her pain and save her fingers.  She will most likely lose the distal portion of her left index finger.  She is left handed so this will be a challenge.  Some other fingers on both hands are also affected and the doctors are hoping to save them.  The treatment means 5 more days in the hospital with no guaranteed success.  The doctors have said they have never seen this fast of a progression before.  Any advice, experience, etc. that is similar to this would be appreciated.  #FirstFlare #raynauds #raynaudssyndrome #Raynaudsawarenessmonth @WeAreSRUK @georgiexoxo @raynaudsorg @BethMain Febr

The thing is that Beth is a teacher.  She is a substitute as of now and working on getting her Master’s Degree in Education but obviously, she cannot work right now so that is so scary and disappointing for her.  She has insurance, but it is 80%/20% which means that she pays 20% and the insurance company pays 80%.  When you have spent over a week or so in the hospital, that 20% adds up.

Beth is in the very last semester of school to earn her Master’s Degree.  She is so afraid that all of her hard work will be lost if she can’t get back to a point where she can finish. Beth has been paying for her education with the help of student loans which means they have to be paid back, of course.

We have no idea what Beth’s prognosis is at this point.  She is independent but needs monetary help that our family is unable to provide for her.  She hates to ask for help!! Unfortunately, at this point, with all the medical bills she is facing, the loans and the inevitable rehabilitation costs for recovery, we have to at least ask for help.  If you are able, we are asking if you would like to contribute to her recovery.  You see, one of the main triggers for this disease is STRESS!  Crazy, right?  It’s impossible for her to just “relax” and not think about anything else right now when she has all of these responsibilities looming when she is recovering.

So, if you would like to donate to help Beth with her recovery and continued battle with this disease, we would REALLY appreciate it! There is no cure for this, only management and the hope that it will go into remission.  100% of the donated money will go to Beth to pay for her medical bills and to help her with her recovery.  I pray that nobody else ever has to go through this.  It is so hard to see your sister in so much pain.  Thank you all and Godspeed to all suffering with this awful disease!

Love to you all,

Angie Briley Holliday
