Beth Davidson Home Accessibility Fundraiser

On January 19th Beth was taken to the hospital by ambulance following 3 days of illness, caused by an infection in her leg.  The infection was a result of Charcot, which she has been dealing with for the past 8 years.  Within hours Beth was transferred to Erie for the first of 2 amputation surgeries. The wound was causing an infection through her body, and there was no “choice” to be made.  The hope was that after the first amputation at her ankle and a course of IV antibiotics, Beth would be able to have the final amputation below her knee.  Thankfully that happened.  Unfortunately, Beth was sent home shortly after her second surgery and, within an hour of being home, had a falling accident that opened her sutures and sent her back to Erie via ambulance and back to surgery.

Thankfully Beth was able to be transferred to the local hospital, and receive rehab care to gain much needed strength before her return home this time.  She was found to be severely anemic and was given a blood transfusion at the hospital.

Now that Beth has her strength back, is feeling better from the transfusion, and healthy from the infection clearing up, she would like to go home to HER house.  She is currently staying with family until her own home can be made accessible and safe for her to be there on her own.

The most pressing issue to get Beth home is her bathroom needing redone to become accessible for her. The family has had several contractors out for quotes, contacted social organizations for help, and attempted to find any grant/aid programs that might be available.

Currently, Beth does not qualify for any assistance with this project.  Family has provided essential items not covered by insurance like the scooter for her mobility, temp potty rails, and a lift chair to aid her for the time.  With medical costs associated with the hospital stays and surgeries rising, the money for the upgrades at home are just not there.

Beth has always been willing to lend a hand to anyone (especially if it involves their pets) if needed.  We are hoping we can help ease some of the burden of the costs associated with this unexpected life-change and get her home SAFELY with her dog and cat where she wants to be.
