Bethan's Camp Kenya Expedition
About Me
My name is Bethan and, in the summer of 2021, I will be travelling to Kenya with Camps International and a group of close friends to help make lasting improvements to some of Kenya’s poorest communities.
I am looking to raise funding for my activities during our four weeks in Kenya. The aims of our expedition are to support local wildlife conservation, help in local villages, build and renovate school buildings, and learn a whole range of new skills.
Why I am going
The future of many iconic species of animals native to Kenya, like Lions and Elephants, is under threat. One of the initiatives I will be supporting involves promoting a more peaceful co-existence between local communities and the wildlife. For example, we will be improving natural waterholes for the animals, to keep them from wandering near to populated areas looking for water.
We will also be supporting the building and repairing of local housing and schools, as many residents cannot afford to repair their homes after a flood. The school in Muhaka, for example, is in constant need of repair, so I will be learning traditional Kenyan building techniques and using local material so that local school children have somewhere clean and safe to learn.
Also, to make sure local livestock are vaccinated and safe, we get to chase goats around a field!
Why your help matters
During our four weeks, we will be working across two camps.
Camp Tsavo is close to the world famous Tsavo National Parks, which provides a safe haven for local wildlife such as Cheetahs, Elephants, and Lions.
We will also spend time in Camp Muhaka, where we get to help make a different exactly where it is needed; right in the heart of a local community. We will be helping to raise educational and living standards to provide long-lasting and meaningful change.
For every school that is built in these areas, the Kenyan government will provide a teacher. This helps ensure that as many children as possible get access to an education.
Thank you
Any and all contributions are gratefully received. Your support means that I will be able help make a real different to people far less fortunate than we are.
