Beth's Journey of Recovery

Having a baby is one of life’s beautiful miracles.
But what if your body didn’t get the message that the pregnancy was complete?
For two years after Bethany had given birth to her second child, she was experiencing ongoing levels of pain, exhaustion and a long list of health complications. This mystery of her deteriorating health was finally answered when they discovered that her body had retained placenta.
Sometimes during childbirth, the placenta may not completely detach from the uterus, and instead it tears. A false signal is given to the mother’s body, saying that 'there is still a child in here' and can cause serious issues in the days and weeks following.
Though this is relatively rare occurrence ( 1-3% of vaginal deliveries), retained placenta can frequently lead to the death of the mother.
In Beth’s case, her circumstance wasn’t discovered and treated at the time of birth. So Beth's body has effectively been carrying on in 'pregnancy mode' for nearly three years!
The effect this has had on her has been immense.
Beth has been navigating:-
- serious levels of pain,
- loss of nutrients,
- chemical imbalances,
- loss of concentration and sleep,
- strain on her mental health (living with ptsd),
- increasingly aggressive symptoms of Level 2-3 Fibromyalgia,
All this while raising a young family.
Beth, along with her husband James and two children, Willow and Ezra are seeking your support for her journey of recovery.
For those of you who don’t know the Angelin Family, these are the people you would want as your neighbours and friends. They are warm, hospitable, empathetic, creative and colourful, people who love community, and offer what they have for the sake of others.
I’m sure all of you will know certain people in your world, who are genuinely good, who have experienced exceptional challenge and hardship through no fault of their own, and who deserve the opportunity to get back on their feet.
This is an opportunity to help Beth during her journey, where the money raised from this GoFundMe will go directly towards the expenses for Beth’s health and wellbeing, including -
- Medication and supplements - $750 per month
- Mental Health Support Sessions - (Psychology) $250 per fortnight
- Physical Therapy - (Osteo, Massage and physical treatments) - approximately $900 per month
- In home support - approximately $1600 per month
This amount becomes approximately $3750 per month.
The ambitious target of this GoFundMe is to provide six months of support for Beth and her family - $22,500.
If we raise this amount, it will give Beth and James the ability to plan out the first half of their year without worry.
Instead of needing to weigh up from one week to the next which treatments are affordable and which are not, we will be providing them with enough financial buffer to create a set schedule and - hopefully - a clear path to treatment.
By the middle of this year, we are trusting there will be an NDIS plan approved and put in place to subsidise some of these ongoing costs.
You can help Beth and her wonderful family in the following ways:-
1. Share this GoFundMe with your friends, family, support networks and community groups. The more care that goes around the better.
2. Donate and leave a message of encouragement for Beth, James and their kids.
3. Journey with us for updates.
This has not been the typical childbirth journey.
However, I believe that all mothers are deserving of the community’s support while they recover. I would invite you to get behind this wonderful family.
Thank you for reading this, for your generosity and care.
