Beto & Nico Fundraiser
Donation protected
A few months ago, Beto Avila was hit by a car while jogging through the crosswalk during his pedestrian right of way. The injuries prevented him from boxing and he and his wife struggled with physical therapy bills. The drivers' insurance gave him the run around and refused to pay. The medical bills emptied the couples' savings.
Just as his sister-in-law was encouraging him to procure better legal assistance, an even worse tragedy occurred. Beto and wife Nico were driving to Ajo, Az to on Christmas Eve when both were involved in an accident. The vehicle rolled 2.5 times. Beto was transported by air for emergency medical attention and both were hospitalized. He had to undergo immediate surgery to prevent further damage from a broken neck. Before he was released, family was warned that chances of movement were unlikely. Also, that the medication he was administered would keep him asleep for another few hours.
Ever determined to defy the odds, he was conscious and moving his arms with all of his power upon initial sight of family. Two days later, he shocked his visitors by moving his toe (possibly inspired by Kill Bill). Beto showed everyone present and concerned the meaning of strength and inspiration.
The two newlyweds have already had to miss work and expenses can pile up. Beto will be in the hospital for months. If you can contribute any amount to help out, they could definitely use it! Thank you for the support and encouragement.
UPDATE: We did hire a lawyer for the jogging accident. That case is underway. Beto was smart enough to have the foresight to sign up for long term disability so we won't be struggling for life. Once we get through the next few months of hospital stay, we will be okay. -Nico
