Better Infill for a Better Edmonton

Edmontonians love their neighborhoods. We want to make them better for everyone. We’re okay with change if it’s done with respect. There’s the issue.
For years, infill developers have had the inside track as the City of Edmonton has prepared a new zoning bylaw and new district plans that will upend neighborhoods across the city. The public barely knows what’s coming: 3-storey apartment buildings on any 50-foot-wide lot; 3 to 5-block-wide corridors of midrise and highrise buildings running through dozens of neighborhoods; dramatically reduced rights of appeal. There are no requirements for more energy efficient buildings; no requirements to build units for families; no required heritage protection; no protection for trees; nothing about solar power.
Our supporters come from across the city and include planners, architects, environmentalists, community league members, high-tech workers, engineers, seniors, and families.
Edmontonians love their neighborhoods. Let’s work together to improve them, not upend them.
