Help Baby Kedric Beat Meningitis!

Donation protected

Baby Kedric began his life at 5:20 am on October 19th and had a normal healthy first 33 days in this in this beautiful world, and his parents had so much planned for him. However, midday on November 21st, 2019, Kedric began the fight for his life.

At home with his mother in an apartment overlooking 494 in Richfield. Kedric had just woken up, and if you know newborns you know that means its time to get drunk on some milk! But something just wasn't right. His mother, Koren, attempted to feed him and he wasn't trying to latch.

Koren knew something was up, this wasn't the Kedric she'd grown to know in her womb for 9 months and then the 33 days thereafter. Something just wasn't right with Kedric. Koren took his temperature and it was 101.1 so she rushed him to the ER just to be safe.

The medical team determined that there was indeed something not right and very serious going on in Kedric's brain. He was fighting off an infection that in turn created big puss pockets in his brain and was putting pressure on his spine. If Koren had waited much longer, Kedric would have most likely severed his spinal cord due to the pressure and died.

The medical team stabilized Kedric, so Koren and Kedric's father, Cedric, began to breathe a little easier and tried to calm down and maybe get a little sleep when overnight terror stuck. “A stroke. Kedric had a stroke and it looks as if the left side of his brain has lost most of its function, it's severely damaged”, the neurosurgeon explained “matter of factly”.

Koren and her fiance Cedric learned more as the days, weeks, and now months went on. Like how the infection was called Bacterial Meningitis, or that Kedric may need a permanent shunt placed in his brain to re-absorb the extracerebral spinal fluid in his brain since it seems like he's not able to do it fast enough himself now.

The medical team didn't think Kedric would survive his injuries caused by the infection, stroke, and subsequent seizures. Kedric was expected to die from his injuries and almost did. However, he is a fighter and proved us wrong. Due to the extent of Kedric's injuries, he will have life long medical issues and has a high probability of having a rough road ahead with life disabilities.

Kedric is still in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and has been there since November 21st 2019. Kedric has permanent brain damage, the brain tissue in his left frontal lobe is dead and can not repair. Kedric is a miracle boy who would not let this tragedy be the end of his story. He fought so hard to survive and continues to fight every day. Kedric will have to deal with all the effects of this tragedy for the rest of his life. It will be years to come before we truly even know how bad the damage is for him.

Koren, his Mom, has been at Kedric's bedside since day one to take care of him and Dad had a mental breakdown, losing his job as a Security Officer, therefore there is no income. Anne, his Grandma, has taken a leave of absence to help care for Kedric, his 2 sisters, and brother, as this is all too much for Koren to try and handle alone. Kedric's recovery will be a marathon, not a sprint, as the medical team has put it.

All donations will go to help the family and any additional things Kedric may need along the way.
