Better than a bunch of flowers, thank our NHS
After being taken very ill in early August and suffering from a ‘very messy’ burst appendix, I experienced first-hand exceptional care from everyone I came into contact with in the NHS.
After dialling 111 in the early hours and whilst in excruciating pain, the On Call GP that spoke to me on the phone, quickly gave me clear and concise instruction as to what to do next.
Paramedics arrived shortly after the 999 call and off I went to Glangwilli Hospital, pulling over only to give me some IV morphine as I really wasn’t coping well with the potholes!!
Long story short, I was cared for by a team of nurses and young doctors who were all so kind and compassionate and in surgery by that afternoon (this was a Sunday remember)!
I was in for around a week and experienced the quality of care which really was second to none and, during a time of Covid challenges, the nurses and doctors were all simply amazing. Working in masks in particular makes it particularly hard - patients can’t hear what’s being said and the staff’s faces were getting sore as well as steaming up their glasses!
I would like to raise a few hundred quid as my little thank you to the NHS and because hot weather is forecast and I don’t want friends and family spending hard-earned money on flowers (although gifts of food once I am eating again will not be turned away)!
So, it really can just be a couple of quid (you can hide the donation amount) and it really will not matter anyhow. Every little helps!
The money raised will be directed specifically to The Hywel Dda Health Charity which covers Carmarthen and Pembrokeshire and, I hope we can pay for a little something for the hospital that was involved in saving my life, Glangwilli.
Thank you for reading this, which I wrote on what I hope is the early hours of my last day here (in hospital not on earth).
Support and cherish your NHS. They saved my life and will continue to save many more every day.
