Help Betty See Again!

Donation protected
After a lifetime of helping others, Betty needs YOUR help to see...

My Granny is the most loving woman in the world.  She has nurtured, fed, and loved (with all her heart!) six children, seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.  But Granny – also known as Betty Lord – lost her sight ten years ago due to diabetic retinopathy.  So she’s never actually SEEN those great-grandchildren.  And that’s a tragedy.

Plus, it’s hard to run a household when you are blind.  Granny loves to cook for people (she holds the world record for most delicious banana pudding!), but she really misses being able to look at recipe books and try new things.  She misses knitting.  She misses watching TV. She misses seeing the Pastor in church.  And she can’t read her bible anymore; that’s a real sorrow for Granny.

Yet, there is hope.  Recently the Lord (the actual Lord, not Granny :) sent a miracle our way.  I took Granny to a demonstration of new computerized glasses called eSight.  We were cautiously optimistic at first because Granny’s vision is so minimal (she couldn’t even see the lady doing the demonstration from across the room). Granny put the eSight glasses on, and I stood about 12 feet away holding a piece of paper with a large “5” on it. At first, she couldn't see anything (we were beginning to lose hope). But after a few minutes, Granny said, “I see the number 5!!” (cue the tears!). I flipped the page to the next number, and the next, and the next. Granny nailed every one of them in seconds!! I kept flipping the pages to smaller and smaller numbers and she aced every one! SHE COULD SEE! For the first time in ten years, my Granny could see! (cue ugly cry!)

These glasses would be life changing for my Granny.  She could see the faces of her kids, her grandkids, and especially those eight great-grandkids she’s NEVER seen.  She misses seeing us so much!

The trouble is, these special electronic glasses cost $15,000 dollars.  And insurance doesn't see sight-restoring glasses as a "necessary medical expense" so that option is out. That’s a lot of money for us, and we just can’t afford it.  Yet it’s essential that Granny get these glasses.  She’s done so much for so many – please help us do something for her.

With YOUR help, Granny could see again!

Please, if you are able, make a donation.  Any donation, large or small, will help.  And if you aren't in the position to donate, please help us by sharing Granny's story. Our goal is to help Granny see as soon as possible. Plus, our next family reunion is in September, and I know she would love to SEE everyone!

Thank you so much for your generosity.  God bless you for your caring and your willingness to help.
