Betty’s IVDD Relapse

Hi everyone!

As some of you may know, Betty unfortunately had a relapse of IVDD on the 13th of September. She first came down with IVDD back on Boxing Day 2021, where she was grade 4 with slight DPS in her back legs.

This time she lost complete use of her back legs and tail, so we had to rush her straight back to the Specialist Vets in Ringwood, where we were under the impression (and hope) that she would only need Conservative treatment at home. Betty deteriorated during the night, and after sending her for an MRI in the morning, they found 1 ruptured disk in her lower lumber area of her spine and a bleed near her spine, which resulted in them having to operate straight away.

Betty is now Grade 5, with no DPS, complete paralysis of her back legs and tail, also doubly incontinent.

So far the whole weeks stay, surgery, medications and so on has maxed our insurance out, especially with having to use the same insurance the first time she had this within 8 months.

We are asking for some help towards physiotherapy and hydrotherapy for Betty. She is grade 5, but there is a slight possibility she may regain some kind of feeling back, or be able to urinate again on her own. Physio and hydro will help build the muscles and strength up in her legs and back, and also aid her confidence again as she’s so scared now.

We want to try everything we can to help Betty, our hearts are broken seeing her like this. Life is so unfair for dogs to go through this horrible cruel disease, especially having to go through it for the second time.

We will be using any left over profits made on our orders, to send directly to Dedicated to Dachshunds with IVDD.
