Dear supporter,
We are a group of young professionals from IESA arts&culture in Paris and we are organising an exhibition titled "Betwixt & Between: Diasporic Visions of Liminal Spaces". It is set up in collaboration with LAGE EGAL Curatorial Projects and will take place in Berlin during the last week of June 2024.
22.2% represents the share of foreigners in Berlin’s total population. In addition to this, 2024 marks the 140th anniversary of the Berlin Conference which was a key moment in the ‘Scramble for Africa’ where respective European leaders negotiated and formalized claims to African territories. Moreover, in a European context more than ever divided around the issue of immigration and integration of foreign populations, "Betwixt & Between" invites the public to transcend the confines of nationality, race and ideology and embrace the richness of cultural plurality. This debate has also been at the forefront of the artistic and creative community in 2024, as seen through the title of this year’s Venice Biennale, "Foreigners Everywhere" further emphasising the relevance of our exhibition. The artists exhibited in our show remind us that, in our collective diversity lies the potential for profound understanding and wider solidarity. Therefore, we are hoping that "Betwixt & Between" will provoke a certain introspection on geopolitical landscapes, identities and cultural hybridity.
By donating to our project, you will also help us cover the costs of creating and producing a 3-day exhibition. This includes renting and equipment costs to display the artworks, art handling expenses and the cost for the opening vernissage event. In addition to this, we will be coordinating a round table discussion led by industry professionals, which will try to highlight diasporic voices in Berlin and address the issues and shortcomings related to this debate. The funds raised will also ensure that the artists involved will be compensated adequately which is something we find is sometimes forgotten in the art market but for us is something which we assign great importance to.
