Beuker family

A special member of our local community is in need of a kidney to resume his daily life.  It is a rare person who is willing and able to go through the testing to be a living organ donor and Eric Beuker has stepped up and been approved to meet this need.   As a community, we, in turn, can help Eric and his wife, Sammy, take this bold and sacrificial step of faith without an additional financial burden for their family.  

Eric's wife, Sammy, expressed what is happening beautifully:  
"Last Spring, when COVID became a real thing and everyone everywhere was shutting down, Eric’s job at the hospital was in jeopardy. They just weren’t doing surgery during such a scary, unknown time. To continue to work (and be paid),  Eric agreed to work on the COVID unit.  At that moment in time, I surrendered his life and our income to God’s will, knowing God held both in his hands.

And God proved faithful and true. While there were definitely challenges during that time, there was always enough and Eric was kept safe during some very difficult weeks. We were provided for abundantly.

This spring, again, I am doing the same thing all over.  Eric has been matched and agreed to donate a kidney to a friend and the surgery is scheduled for Wednesday, July 14.   This will not be without its challenges: I’m not good with knowing someone is in pain and unable to do anything to help. I hate seeing Eric hurt. There are very real complications that can arise. He will be off work for about 8 weeks.  He is our main source of income and we will be down to a fraction of our normal. The mental health of a couple people in our tribe is fragile and managing a lot of things will fall on my (very tired) shoulders.

Here’s the thing: I know God’s got us. He who clothes the flowers in such splendor and watches over the mama birds building her nest holds me, Eric and our kids in the palm of his gentle and loving hands.

Honestly, we don’t know where the money for our family is going to come from. I am unsure how to plan for all the things. Protecting the mental health of many is a regular challenge, adding a major surgery will add additional challenges. I have some major things happening in ministry this summer that God must provide for, some way.

But I know God doesn’t work on a scarcity model, but on one based in abundance. Abundance of love, of joy, provision, friendship, prayers, laughter, and support.
I know that God’s still faithful and true."
