Beverley Town Cricket Club & Embrace
Donation protected
Embrace is a highly specialist, round the clock transport service for critically ill infants and children in Yorkshire and Humber who require care in another hospital in the region or further afield. Beverley Town CC have a proud tradition of walking to raise funds for the club and causes that have touched our members lives. In July 40 of us young and old, will be completing 45 miles of the Cleveland Way to help thank Embrace for their fantastic work.
In November 2022 our second team vice captain Ben and Jasmine became proud parents to their second little girl, Penelope, or Nellie as she is usually called.
After a whirlwind 2 weeks of the new-born bubble they noticed Nellies health deteriorated and she was rushed into Hull Royal and Jasmine and Ben were about to begin a parent’s worst nightmare.
For the first 48 hours, there seemed to be no improvement and Nellie was moved to the High Dependency Unit before the medical team decided that to receive the best possible care she needed to be incubated and moved to Leicester intensive care unit.
This is when Ben and Jasmine were first introduced to Embrace, part of The Children’s Hospital Charity, a specialist medical transport team for poorly children; as soon as the team walked into the theatre to collect Nellie they put Jasmine and Ben at ease; after thorough checks and Nellie being put in what can only be described as a baby spaceship, Nellie and Jasmine made their way to Leicester in an Embrace ambulance.
The Embrace team constantly checked on Nellie, made changes to her and her medication all whilst on the road. They even made time to ensure Ben and Jasmine had a room to stay in at the hospital on arrival.
After a stay in Leicester for 9 days, Nellie was ready to move back to Hull Royal but the team at Leicester were struggling to arrange any transport. After 2 days of waiting Embrace stepped in and went down to Leicester to bring Nellie back to Hull. The Embrace team stayed with Nellie to ensure she was given the correct room and settled in before leaving Hull Royal.
The care of the NHS staff they received was incredible but Embrace are an absolutely amazing team
Starting on Sunday 28th July members of Beverley Town Cricket Club will be walking through the night to complete the first 45 miles of the Cleveland Way, with half of the funds raised going to Embrace and half for the ongoing running of the cricket club.
