Mitochondrial diseases are a group of metabolic disorders that result from defects in the function of the mitochondria. The mitochondria is responsible for creating more than 90% of the energy for every cell in the body, so their proper function is required to sustain life and support growth. Symptoms can be progressive and may inclulde any one or combinations of the following: seizures, developmental delay, regression, movement disorders, migraines, stroke, cardiac problems, mental retardation, muscle dysfunction, visual loss, gastrointestinal problems, temperature irregularities, fatigue, autism, behavioral problems and dementia. Helping my granddaughter through her many problems is her doctor, Richard Frye. Without his care and extremely important research she would not be as functional as she is today.
Known as the "Mito doctor" Dr. Richard Frye M.D. , Ph.D. and his research team continues to make strides in diagnostics and treatment services for the many children and adults he treats. His internationally recognized, interdisciplinary, collaborative work translates into cutting edge treatments for not only Mitochondrial disease, but autism, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, and Parkinson's disease to name a few. Please support his important research.
