Family Looking for Help

Hello everyone,

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Hailee and I’m a 27 year old who lives with my 20 year old disabled brother. Together, we have a wonderful family consisting of a cat, bunny and snake.

The past few months have been nothing but emotional, physical and financial hardship.

In September of 2024, I started experiencing pains in my stomach, along with the inability to eat due to feeling full. After several trips to the emergency room and other medical visits, it was determined that I was experiencing episodes of acute pancreatitis due to my gallbladder. In November of 2024, a requisition was made to the surgeon. I am still awaiting a call for surgery.

Due to my stomach pains, I have been unable to work since September and am undergoing conflict with my employers due to ongoing needs for disability accommodation and my current physical health. Unfortunately, I am unable to go further into detail in public about this matter.

The past few months have been rough financially. I was only able to receive EI for 6 weeks, and am now currently awaiting a doctor to sign my disability forms for long-term disability benefits. I also have had to pile onto my debt due to unforeseen circumstances, such as having to move apartments due to mold and a hole in the wall, affecting the safety of me, my brother and our pets. Most recently, we had to take our rabbit to the emergency vet last night which unfortunately added more debt to our financial situation.

Right now, the future is scary for us. My brother and I are completely financially independent from our family due to a breakdown in the relationship. I currently have a line of credit that I have been using to be able to pay bills, rent and food, however, the credit limit is 15,000 and I am soon to be over 10,000 once I pay first month’s rent. Additionally, the only income we are receiving currently is my brother's ODSP payments.

If there’s anything anyone could do to help, whether it be donating, providing resources, or supporting messages, I would greatly appreciate it. I get scared to ask the community for help, as I feel like I am admitting defeat, but at this point I believe I’m falling through the cracks of the system despite my efforts to change my circumstances every day.
