This is my 3 year old grandson Knox! He is a healthy, rambunctious and loving boy until Mon Sept 14 when his kidneys shut down from an E.Coli infection. He went from a kid with diarrhea and what we thought was a virus to critically ill in less than 2 days!
He was rushed by ambulance from his small town hospital, Great Bend Regional Hospital to the airport where he was airlifted by fixed wing ambulance to Kansas City Children’s Medical Center.
Once at the hospital, he was diagnosed with HUS which is Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome. He needed a blood transfusion and emergency surgery to prepare his kidneys for dialysis. He will be in the hospital for at least 4 weeks undergoing treatments followed by an unknown amount of time recovering at home.
My daughter Rebecca and her husband Garrett Rebel have been by his side non stop. Family and friends have pitched in care for 6 yr old Jaxon and 1 yr old Lexi. They have an amazing network of family, friends, co-workers and church community that has come together to pitch in selflessly.
However friends and Family, near and far, have asked how else they can help. That’s when I got this idea for a GoFund Me Campaign. While the Rebels do have medical insurance, the cost of a “fixed wing ambulance” along with longterm medical care and Rebecca not working while caring for Knox will surely be a financial burden.
So if you would like to contribute to help with these expenses, we would be most appreciative.
Sweet Knox misses his brother and sister and wants to go home. But he also enjoys telling all visitors about his ride in a “fire truck” which is what he calls the ambulance. Even during difficult painful medical procedures, Knox will say Thank You to the nurses and doctors caring for him.
If you would like to contribute, please feel free to do so. We appreciate all the prayers and support and can’t thank everyone enough. I will update all on how Knox is doing through this Go Fund Me page. To help get the word out, you can share this link on Facebook.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR THOUGHTS, PRAYERS, SUPPORT AND POSITIVE ATTITUTE. With God’s grace, Knox will continue to recover and battle back to be the healthy, happy and energetic boy he has always been.
God bless you. Teri Milligan aka Mimi
