On Thursday September 6, 2018, Kevin Wong was fishing in Lake Ontario in the area around the mouth of Duffins Creek in Ajax. Lake conditions were reported as very calm for boating. Kevin was healthy and a strong swimmer. His fishing plan and GPS showed he stayed within half mile of the shore and in water less than 40ft of water. Police were called to Rotary Park, where they found Kevin's boat beached on the shore. The boat was unmanned with the kicker trolling motor running, and fishing lines still in the water. It's believed Kevin fell into the lake.
Search and rescue efforts immediately began following the discovery. The authorities, family, and friends went above and beyond to look for Kevin. Volunteers walked the shorelines, searched the air with drones, and boated around the lake for several days in search of Kevin. On September 11, 2018 shortly before 10 a.m., a local dog walker spotted a body washed ashore near Petticoat Creek Conservation Area in Pickering. It has been confirmed by police that this body belongs to Kevin.
