Hey, y’all!
The time has finally come!
I started my very long journey to get top surgery in 2018. At the time, I was living in California. I had access to insurance that would pay for surgery, but I did not have financial stability to take work off for the amount of time I’d need to recover from surgery.
I moved to the PNW, where I could still access surgery. My road block when I lived there was wait times! I got a consultation appointment after a year of trying to get a referral from my doctor, only to find out that the appointment was a year and a half away!
After the death of my beloved step father, I made the difficult choice to move back to Kansas City. As you may or may not know, anti trans legislation is a huge problem for the Bible Belt. I was very scared that I would not be able to access surgery at all after I moved here, but I did it!
I found myself a wonderful non-binary doctor, who referred me to a truly awesome surgeon who does very impressive work. My setback here is simply that my insurance does not cover any trans-related healthcare!
I’ve been saving up my money for quite some time, and am able to cover most of the cost of surgery and surgery related expenses. I need to raise the last 1/3 of the cost, which will cover anesthesia fees, facility fees, and supplies for the first chunk of the at home healing process.
I’m very grateful that I’ve been able to get to this point. Surgery, for me, will be a real life changer. I’m very excited to be able to feel comfortable in my body, and to put my binders to rest (they’re extremely uncomfortable, especially when it’s hot outside).
Please help me reach this very important life goal of mine! Any amount of support right now would be appreciated from the bottom of my heart!
