BROWN GIRL OUTDOOR WORLD COMMUNITY TRANSPORTATION

Donation protected
WHAT IF WE MOVED AWAY FROM SOLELY DISCUSSING WHAT WE CAN'T/DON'T HAVE AND MADE MOVES TO ACQUIRE THE THINGS WE SHOULD HAVE

Brown Girl Outdoor World was created as a safe space to introduce more Black, Indigenous and people of diverse cultural identities to the outdoors through education and adventure. In addition, we wanted to expand on present narratives regarding our place in the outdoors and create a Community of belonging. Through partnerships, events and many nature-based activations, we built a vibrant, actively growing and well-engaged Community of humans who are ready to reap the mental and physical benefits of time in nature. The individuals who have entered the Community now leave wanting to know, love and work to protect the spaces in which we recreate and further understand their impact on nature and the environment.

WE'VE BEEN HERE BEFORE

In 2020 we ran a successful campaign to build a gear lending library that has since supplied individuals and families with the gear needed to get outside and further enhance their relationship with the outdoors. While fulfilling that need, we received much Community feedback and soon realized that though the conversation around gear is important, transportation and getting people into nature is a bigger and hardly explored piece of the conversation.

While transportation solutions to accessing parks and green spaces should be fully funded, supported and administered by the various levels of government and their agencies, we want to make our actions louder than our complaints.

SO WHY A NEW FUNDRAISER AND HOW CAN YOU HELP

Creating a transportation solution will require funding, resources and lots of work to get it off the ground (well, more like on the ground). We want to create a Community supported, accessed and funded form of transportation specifically available to organizations working on getting folks into parks and green spaces. Whether that comes in the form of a single bus or a fleet, we want to get this started and not further delay the work while we wait. We are looking to create a sustainable, accessible and well-supported means of getting people onto the trails and into parks and green spaces.

Your donations will go towards the initial purchase of a vehicle and further support the growth and success of this initiative.
