LAURENS LIFE

Donation protected
My name is Kim , Lauren came to my house in the most desperate of situations ... but interestingly enough her desperation was not for herself but for the comfort of her family and where they would stay while she was recovering from surgery in the hospital .... Here is part of Lauren story .
Lauren is from a small town in  North Carolina. She was born with a  condition  called pectus excavatum (a congenital deformity of the anterior wall of the chest in which several ribs and the sternum grow abnormally resulting in a caved-in or sunken appearance of the chest). At 4 years old she had surgery to "fix" her chest. In 2014, Lauren learned that her pectus condition had now led to thoracic dystrophy which means her heart is crammed into the same cavity as her left lung causing her lung function to drop to 40%. Basically, Lauren's heart and lungs were squished together due to the deformity of her sternum. Without surgery Lauren would die from her condition. Lauren searched the country for a specialist and found a Dr. at the Mayo clinic. The surgery costs well over $150,000. Lauren scheduled it for February 2016 and raised as much money as she and her town could. She also booked a home(thru VRBO) for her entire family to stay in while she underwent her surgery. She payed in advance and when she arrived the homeowner said he was no longer able to rent the home to her and refused to refund her $7000! Frantically she looked for a home for her and her family to stay in less than 2 days out from her surgery. Fortunately she stumbled upon A home. The owners opened up their home to the Dobbins family free of charge. The next day Lauren went in for a 10 hour surgery. Following the surgery Lauren immeidately began to feel ill and coded. They worked Lauren for 2 hours trying to get her back. They finally got her back and rushed her back into surgery to correct a bleed in her heart. She underwent several more hours of surgery. However, due to the complications from her surgeries, Lauren's brain was without oxygen for too long and she had no brain activity. Her husband and family eventually had to make the difficult decision to pull her off life support ,but not before they saved several other lives by donating Laurens' viable organs . Lauren was just 33 and leaves behind her husband and 2 young boys, Jonah (5) and Spencer (2). Now her family needs all the help they can get , dealing with skyrocketing medical bills and the unfortunate scam of losing $7000 adding insult to injury this family has been through enough.
