Help Gia and her family.

On January 3rd, Hannah and Dom’s world was completely shattered with the unexpected news that their 10 week old baby Gia had Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, an extremely rare blood cancer. After being unwell for a few days following Christmas, Gia was diagnosed immediately following a blood test at SWHC Emergency Dept and was instantly airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital, Peadiatric Intensive Care Unit. The Royal Childrens Hospital in Melbourne is where they will be while Gia undergoes an initial 6 rounds of intensive chemotherapy.
Acute Myeloid Leukaemia is a rare blood cancer particularly for Gia’s age, she has already undergone multiple procedures and will need more. Gia is a little trooper and has come out the other side of her first round of chemo and the immediate risks of the initial diagnosis but some massive hurdles still to jump.
As you can imagine this has turned life for Gia’s family completely upside down, with Hannah and Dom relocating to Melbourne for her treatment and her two older sisters travelling between and being cared for by family. It’s unimaginably hard for the girls, Hannah and Dom who should just be at home together enjoying their new baby.
Gia’s family is always the first to help others, so it’s no surprise lots of people are reaching out wanting to help where they can. This is just one way for people to do that, so that Hannah and Dom can prioritise being with Gia at this time and throughout her treatment.
We have set this up as a way to offer support to Hannah and Dom and hopefully ease some of the financial burden of relocation for Gia’s treatment and to help keep life as normal as possible for her sisters. We all want Gia to be surrounded by her loved ones and for her family’s focus to be solely on her treatment journey and we hope this can contribute in some way to that.
