Help Amber Overcome

On September 17, 2020, my cousin, Amber Spiwak McCrory, took a horrific fall down the concrete stairs outside her apartment. The fall caused damage to her spine which required surgery on November 9, 2020. While the surgery to repair the injury to her spine went well, it caused a serious infection to develop and she was admitted to the hospital on November 25, 2020, to where she remains currently. 

The doctors have now identified the bacteria that is causing the infection and have been administering three forms of antibiotics through a PICC line. Unfortunately, due to the seriousness of the spinal infection, the doctors have informed us that she will likely need another surgery. A discharge date has not been given, but we hope to have Amber home before Christmas. The PICC line will remain in for possibly the full 18 months, while her activity level will remain decreased for 16 weeks or more.

Anyone who knows Amber know she’s full of life, energy, love, silliness, and has a magnetic pull to her that can only be experienced. She is a loving, single mother to her beautiful 9 year old daughter, Gillian, who misses her deeply. Amber is a successful hair dresser and being out of work for so long is causing mounting financial stress with unpaid bills accumulating.
