Help Chance get Surgery to Walk Again
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kendra and I’m fundraising for my dog Chance’s surgery so he can walk again.
I’ve had Chance since the day he was born, when I was only 15 years old. He has been by my side now for almost 11 years. He’s been with me through every accomplishment, struggle, break up, multiple moves, the birth of my daughter, everything. He’s been the best companion and protector I could’ve asked for. Chance also has a huge attachment to my 4 year old daughter and sleeps in her room every night. We love him so much and know he deserves more time with his family.
Since February of 2024, Chance started to loose the mobility of his back legs. For a dog that has loved playing frisbee and has been so active his whole life, it has been heart breaking to see him struggle to walk. In the past year, he has had over a dozen vet visits and multiple testing's done (blood work, ultrasounds, x-rays and more). The results have always been inconclusive.
After some scare incidents in December, I took him to another vet for a 3rd opinion in beginning of January. This vet said he needed to see a neurology specialist asap.
On Wednesday, January 22nd, I took Chance to Guardian Veterinary Specialists where they did a exam and MRI. Miraculously, I was approved for CareCredit so I was able to pay for his MRI. The total visit was $5,614.
Chance's MRI revealed a diffuse lesion throughout the spinal canal, with focal spinal cord and nerve root compression at the level of C7-T16 and T12-13. The T12-13 lesion (one on his lower spine) is what is causing significant compression and ultimately his lost of mobility in his hind legs. Based on the MRI findings and clinical history, they are suspicious of cancer, however a inflammatory disease has not been ruled out yet.
The specialist has suggested a surgery to relieve the compression of the T12-13 lesion (which should allow him to walk properly again) and to perform a biopsy to help determine a diagnosis. The estimate for surgery is between $8,000 - $15,000.
He currently is on prednisone and gabapentin for inflammation and pain relief. Chance has been declining the past year, and if we cannot do this surgery we will eventually have to humanely euthanize him to prolong his suffering and the spread of the lesions. He currently cannot walk without assistance.
In the past year, I have spent almost $10,000 try to figure out what was wrong with him so he could receive proper treatment.
As a single young mom who has 3 jobs and has to pay rent, a car payment, day care tuition and so much more I simply cannot afford this surgery. Please keep Chance in your prayers and consider donating if you can (any amount is not too small)❤️ I am not ready to give up on him yet.
