Help Fund an Accessible Van for Rudy
Donation protected
Serena and Sawyer’s son Rudy has an extremely rare genetic disease called LAMA2 merosin-deficient muscular dystrophy. Rudy lacks the protein necessary for his muscles to "stick" to his basement skeletal membrane. Because of this, Rudy experiences tremendous weakness throughout his body, will not walk or crawl, and will continue to have progressing feeding and breathing difficulties as he grows.
Those of you who are familiar with Serena and Sawyer know that they will do everything within their power to give Rudy the best possible life. Within the next three years, several projects and expenses need to be addressed in order to care for him fully.
These include, but are not limited to: a wheelchair accessible bedroom/bathroom (approx. $15,000), a full size wheelchair van (approx. $65,000), ramp renovations to enter Rudy’s home (quoted at $5,500), and yearly medical expenses (ranging from $10,000-16,000). These modifications, along with the tremendous cost of medical equipment, medical travel to Cincinatti, and therapy appointments, is not feasible for a family on a modest salary.
It is my personal goal that we reduce the biggest expense of all for Serena and Sawyer. I believe that as a community, we can fully fund the purchase of Rudy's wheelchair accessible van and give them the peace of mind that this astronomical purchase is fully covered.
This community is powerful and can do incredible things. Let's make it happen.
