Berkeley High School Dollar-A-Day
Donation protected
McKinney-Vento students at Berkeley High often never have the opportunity to do extra school-organized activities such as going to prom. Prom tickets cost $70 for McKinney-Vento and students on free/reduced lunches. Living in homelessness, families already feel the stress of everyday life, and fun activities such as prom are often not an option. We hope to raise enough money for at least 25 of students to be able to attend prom. Having this experience will give a sense of normalcy after spending most of high school struggling with some form of homelessness-whether it be being an unaccompanied minor, having to live with relatives, or spending time at youth shelters.
We are also raising money for chromebooks for students to do their homework on. It is often difficult to get homework done once the Berkeley Public Library has closed. We hope to be able to buy enough chromebooks for McKinney-Vento students to use. Currently, we have three chromebooks available to the (roughly) 230 McKinney-Vento students in our district.
