Help Alvin recover from Kikuchi

Donation protected
Our Alvin, 18 years old, champion cricketer, footballer, basketball and badminton player, a true friend to countless people, a boy so full of energy, enthusiasm, skill, determination and pure joy for life has had his life interrupted.

What happened ?
In December 2022 he was diagnosed with a rare condition called Kikuchi disease. This causes painful swelling of the lymph nodes, fever and fatigue. There was a 8 week period where diagnosis was not known, causing worry and uncertainty. Once the diagnosis was completed he spent 8 months as an in-patient at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London.

Next Steps:
Alvin is now at home. He still has challenges, specifically speech and mobility. His commitment to recover is an inspiration. His patience, humility, sheer bloody-mindedness, ambition and support of his family is awe-inspiring.

How can you help ?

NHS physio and speech therapy sessions are only one of each every 15 days.

To accelerate Alvin's recovery we need to raise £20,000 initially to cover the following:

Speech Therapy: 100 sessions @ £100 / session = £10,000 (incl travel)
Physiotherapy : 200 sessions @ £50 / session = £10,000 (incl travel)

Roadmap
Kikuchi disease is a benign disorder that usually resolves on its own within a few months, but it can also cause other complications. There is no specific treatment for Kikuchi disease, and the doctors are trying different medications to reduce the inflammation. This appeal may well need to extend to cover other activities to address any future complications that may show themselves.

Any amount you can donate will help. We are grateful for your support and prayers, and we hope to share some good news with you soon. Please share this fundraiser with your friends and family, and help us spread the word about Kikuchi disease and its impact on children and families. Thank you for your generosity and kindness.
