Bianca's complications from double mastectomy

 Hi, my name is Adrienne Fucito and I am starting this GoFundMe for my sister Bianca. Bianca was diagnosed with breast cancer in May of 2019. She kicked ass throughout her chemotherapy treatments, which were followed by a double mastectomy. Unfortunately, the mastectomy did not go as well. She developed necrosis (the death of skin tissue due to lack of blood supply), which ultimately led to nearly two years of reconstructive surgeries, revisions, another round of necrosis, infected implants, and a tissue transplant which required eight days in the hospital (with no visitors allowed!). The physical and emotional pain my sister has had to endure is like none I have ever seen...

 

The infection mentioned above escalated to the point of implant exposure while Bianca was away from home. She consulted a reconstructive surgeon who immediately sent her to the ER, and her implants were removed that same day. The infection was so bad that Bianca was admitted to the hospital, causing the surgery to be processed as an in-patient rather than emergency procedure; and her insurance did not cover all the costs. Despite filing appeals with her insurance and having multiple conversations with hospital billing, Bianca is responsible for nearly $29,000 of the costs associated with the emergency removal of her implants. In addition, to have the procedure needed to address the lack of viable skin and tissue in her chest (DIEP flap surgery), she had to purchase additional health insurance that was accepted by the hospital where the specialist microsurgeon operates.

 

Bianca has racked up nearly $38,000 in out-of-pocket costs since the emergency surgery in March 2021, and this will not be the end of her expenses. Bianca does not like to ask for help and is particularly embarrassed by the idea of asking for money. I am stepping in because she simply cannot do this on her own, and the financial stress is another burden she does not deserve. If you can donate anything at all we would greatly appreciate it.
